WEEK 4: BREAD WEEK
Week 4 and we're all about Bread! In the Signature, Brendan received a Peter Pat on the Back for his "Special" Mary Jane Grain loaf that left everyone hungry for more. Ali's Vegan Flour Power loaf was a perfectly balanced blend of grains and flavors. Crystelle surprised herself with her successfully risen Against the Grain loaf.
This week's Technical was set by Simon who challenged the bakers to make 24 of his very favorite Braised Beef Buns. Ali eked out a first place with Brendan close behind. Sandy ran into problems with the heat, both literal and metaphorical, and had to be taken away in an ambulance after they fainted onto their cooktop and burned their face.
Sandy did make it back in time for the Showstopper and was keen to show off their version of an Armenian Gata Cake. Sadly there were some problems with ingredients going missing for many of the bakers and Sandy was unable to get a good rise without yeast. Brendan and Ali were again neck and neck with their competing versions of chai flavored Gatas. Ruth was in danger of going home for the first time when her recipe went missing and she ended up winging it. Kate H and Kate B both attempted creme fillings with less success than they'd hoped for.
Holly and Victoria and Luis all briefly disappeared but were found by the stream eating custard cremes and Brendan's Mary Jane Grain which delayed filming the results of the Technical. Tom had trouble drawing the Signature bakes when his sketchpad went missing but it was found in time for the Showstopper, though with a few additional and slightly rude, images added. Terry and Dana were caught in a compromising situation that no one could quite explain. Peter annoyed his fellow judges by spending most of the weekend walking around the tent saying "Dough!" And Opal managed to break every single mixing bowl in the tent leading to the bakers having to get creative and use all kinds of alternative vessels.
